HOME TEAM TAKES ON THE HARLEM WIZARDS -- RCFA SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP FUND-RAISER
A sold-out crowd of 1,100 cheered on the home team, the Riverhead All-Stars, as they gamely took on the Harlem Wizards on Thursday, November 14. They had the crowd on their feet and cheering in minutes of taking the floor. The Wizards brought their own announcer, who kept up a lively play-by-play patter--creatively announcing Riverhead players with names like Paul Bunyan, Wonder Woman, Richie Cunningham and more.
The event hosted by the Riverhead Central Faculty Association, and enthusiastically supported by local sponsors and the school community, is a fund-raiser for senior scholarships awarded in June.
"It was great. It was awesome. Everybody from the youngest to the oldest seemed to be having a great time. I had a blast! It was also a terrific fundraiser," said RCFA president and high school social studies teacher Lisa Goulding. "This was a wonderful event for the school and the community," said Ms. Goulding. "We had 25 players on our team and another 50-75 teachers, administrators and staff helping out in some capacity."
With 1,100 tickets sold and sponsorships of approximately $3,000, Gregory Wallace, the RCFA coordinator of this event, agreed that while the Riverhead All-Star Team may have lost the game (74-64), the senior scholarship fund was a big winner!
