MSG Varsity Up & Running at RHSRiverhead High School's MSG Varsity crew has begun filming school events, concerts, games and shows for their webpage (www.msgvarsity.com/long-island/riverhead).
"The students have learned inteviewing techniques, how to film events, report on stories, and edit raw footage. Using the techniques they have been taught, the students have already put together several cohesive news stories that spotlight what's going on in our district," states art teacher and MSG advisor Shannon McCafferty. "Check out the webpage to see some of our work, including interviews and footage of the girl's varsity basketball team, the orchestra, Blue Masques members and a photography class." All of the equipment, editing software, and tutoring are provided to the district through an MSG Varsity grant. What the students learn by being part of MSG Varsity will help them succeed in many future careers such as journalism, film production, reporting, news casting and photography. Every member of the crew has the opportunity to try their hand at every aspect of the production process and are also eligible for an MSG Varsity scholarship. Each story that the MSG Varsity crew puts together will also be entered into the running at the "V Awards" where they will be up against all other participating Long Island Schools for a chance to win a $5,000.00 grant for the Riverhead Central School District. GO MSG VARSITY!
